Manos Unidas Opens the 1st Private School for Special Education in Cuzco

In 2009, Manos Unidas opened the first school dedicated to children of special needs in the Cuzco area, Camino Nuevo (New Path). The school started with 2 students and now has over 50 children. The organization works closely with children, teachers, and families with the mission to provide inclusive education and work opportunities for persons with special needs in the Andean region, regardless of their financial resources.

The school is attended by over 50 students of ages 3-24 years old directly affected by a physical, intellectual or learning disability.



 

 
Camino Nuevo
Manos Unidas founded the school, Camino Nuevo, in April 2009: the first private educational facility recognized by the Peruvian Ministry of Education that serves children and young adults with special needs in Cuzco.

The school offers classes featuring: personalized education, language and social skill development, mathematics, reading and writing, life skills, job preparation, community inclusion, and reinforcing artistic expression.

On average, the student to teacher ratio is 5 to 1, allowing the school to maintain the quality of individualized learning.

Manos Unidas works directly with dedicated families from all income levels who are interested in improving the academic, behavioral and social skills of their children.
